Hon Dr
Anxious Jongwe Masuka has a BSc Agric (Hons), and a Doctor of Philosophy
(D PHIL) obtained from the University of Zimbabwe.
Hon Dr
Masuka has extensive agricultural experience, spanning more than 32 years,
backed by a strong science background, having been a researcher at the
Forestry Commission, a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe and an
agricultural researcher at the Tobacco Research Board.
Hon Dr
Masuka is a prolific science writer with over 130 science publications and
has authored, co-authored and edited over 29 books and handbooks on
forestry, agriculture, and policy and strategy. Agriculture books are on
cotton, potato, goat, sugar, livestock, traditional grains, and maize
production, in addition to books on climate smart agriculture, green
economy, import substitution and financing agriculture. He
recently co-authored a book on Larger Fungi of Africa South of the Sahara.
Hon Dr
Masuka was a Founding Fellow of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences in 2004.
Hon Dr
Masuka became the first black General Manager of the Tobacco Research
Board in 2001, where he stayed till 2012. Hon Dr Masuka joined the
Zimbabwe Agricultural Society in 2015 after a two-year stint as Executive
Director and Chief Operating Officer at Ariston Holdings.Hon Dr Masuka has
been a member of more than 30 Boards and Associations, among them being
Chairman – University of Zimbabwe; Chairman – Nuanetsi Ranch and
Development of Zimbabwe Subsidiaries; Chairman – Buy Zimbabwe, Chairman –
ArtAgro Sothern Africa, Chairman – ZIMBRANDS; Chairman – Zimbabwe Sunshine
Group; Chairman – Zimbabwe Potato Micro-propagation Association; and
Chairman of Board of Advisors – Federation of Young Farmers Clubs
Zimbabwe, and was on the Boards of Ariston Holdings, SOS Children’s
Villages, Manicaland State University, Farmers Development Trust and Cold
Storage Company, among others.
The
Honourable Doctor has been Chairman – Africa Mycological Association and
Vice President – World Mycological Association.
Hon Dr
Masuka has won several management awards and in 2015 was selected by the
Marketers Association of Zimbabwe as one of the 50 most influential
Zimbabweans (non-politicians). Hon Dr Masuka was voted CEO of the Year,
Empowerer of the Year, Service Champion of the Year, and Outstanding
Businessman of the Year, Innovation and Excellence of the Year, among many
annual awards in his career.
Hon Dr
Masuka is an ardent student of strategy, and a known transformative and
practical agri-business leader in Zimbabwe. He is also a successful farmer
and an entrepreneur.
The
above success stories have seen Hon Dr Masuka being appointed the Minister
of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.
