STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP 2026

AGRICULTURE Minister, Hon. Dr. Anxious Jongwe Masuka said the country is targeting a Strategic Grain Reserve of 600,000 metric tonnes by August 2027, while drought mitigation centres are being established across 1,527 rural wards to support livestock and protect farmers from distress sales.

Hon. Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka has challenged agricultural sector leaders to sharpen strategies and strengthen Zimbabwe's preparedness for a possible strong El Niño in the 2026/27 season.

When agriculture does well, the economy does well. Agriculture is the multiplier effect on the rest of the economy, which is why it is the anchor sector and primary driver of the catalytic growth we want to see across other sectors,” he said. He cited the sector’s 27,9 percent growth and contribution of 2,2 percentage points to the country’s overall 8,3 percent GDP growth recorded in the previous year

This came out at the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development’s five-day strategic planning retreat in Bulawayo yesterday.
