CLEAN ENVIRONMENT, SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

The Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development today joined the nation in the National Clean-Up Campaign, with Permanent Secretary Professor Dr Obert Jiri leading officials and staff in cleaning the Department of Veterinary Services premises in Harare.

“We must lead by example. Just as we expect our pig sties, kraals and livestock handling facilities to be kept clean, we must equally maintain clean offices, workplaces and surroundings. When you see litter on the ground, take responsibility, pick it up and put it in the bin,” he emphasised.

The Ministry continues to champion a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, recognising that environmental responsibility is integral to public health, agricultural development and the attainment of Vision 2030.

Zimbabwe’s agricultural innovations win praise from Ghana

Zimbabwe’s agricultural technology has caught the attention of Ghana, with a high-level delegation touring the country’s premier agricultural show in search of solutions to climate-proof food production.

Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, who was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development, Davis Marapira, said he was impressed by the exhibitions, which reflected advancing agricultural technology in irrigation, mechanisation and livestock development in Zimbabwe.

Agriculture, he added, should be deliberately harnessed to create gainful employment for young people, fight poverty and generate sustainable prosperity. Sustainability, he stressed, should remain central to agricultural transformation, with the present generation having a responsibility to utilise land and water resources productively while preserving them for future generations.

No Mealie-meal shortage in Bulawayo – Government

GOVERNMENT has assured consumers that Bulawayo and surrounding areas have adequate supplies of mealie-meal, dismissing fears of shortages while announcing a review of import levies on maize, soya bean and soya meal to ensure industry continues accessing competitively priced raw materials

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Professor Obert Jiri said that maize meal was readily available in Bulawayo, with supplies to retailers remaining stable and prices showing no significant upward movement. “There is certainly no shortage, and there is an abundance of maize meal in Bulawayo and surrounding areas,” Prof Jiri said.

“If you go to Bulawayo now, you will see a lot of maize meal in the shops. The prices are also very good; they have not increased. The supply is there.”
